Couchsurfing in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl

So anyone who knows me at all, knows I LOVE to travel. I love meeting new people, trying new things and just being in a new environment period. It's refreshing. In fact for me, it's absolutely necessary. Every-time I go on a trip I come back with a new positive perspective, and all of my previous worries seem so small. My favorite part about traveling is seeing how other people live and experiencing it. I've been wanting to try Couchsurfing for a while now, but hadn't gotten the guts to do it. Well, to make a long story short I had plans to meet one of my best friends in Ft. Lauderdale, had already bought the ticket and she wasn't able to come. Since I wasn't able to change my ticket and I really couldn't afford a hotel by myself - I thought - well it's either now or never. So I contacted a few host and was able to find someone who would take me in. :)

Now I know most of you are thinking, woah - that's really scary staying with a stranger? Well, for one - I only sought out host who had referrals. Of course that doesn't guarantee anything, but... really. I could go get hit by a car tomorrow and die - Why live in fear? Speaking of... Fear has been on my mind a lot lately. I think of all the hurtful things that have happened in my life. I think, wow, if someone told me these things would happen to me, I would have said I will never be able to handle that. I would have imagined all the hurtful things would be so much worse. I've decided with the exception of instinctual fear for your life, fear is pointless. I've started to ask myself why I'm afraid of things? If I find it's because I'm afraid of what people will think, or failure, or hurt - I squash it. Or I at least try to. Fear is such a powerful feeling but I truly believe that it's the true root of unhappiness. Think about it. If you could live your life without fear of failure - how different would it be? Fear of getting hurt in a relationship? Imagine how open and loving people would be if they lived without that fear. If people could get hurt yet move on and try again, and again - until they find something that works - wow how different the world would be. We are all going to fail - over and over again. It's those who live with the least amount of fear, who keep trying, that become truly happy and successful people. People always ask what the key to happiness is and I think this is the common denominator. Living a Fearless life - and that's what I want to do.

....And that's that happens when I travel - I come back all philosophical. haha.

Anyhow, back to my trip. I got to meet some really cool people.. including a Gold Medal Olympic Champion - no biggie. Overall, it was such a cool experience that... I only got my camera out once.

I had no idea free diving even existed before this trip, so my host who is an expert diver and underwater videographer told me all about it. Here he's showing me a clip with some of his friends freediving for a GoPro campaign. This one made me cry when they started dancing with the whales - so beautiful.
